Galatians 3:22-24

Galatians 3:22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

These verses begin by telling us that all have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. If you say you have not sinned you are a liar and the truth is not in you. We are forgive our sins if we believe that Jesus was our payment for our sin. It continues to tell us that before faith man was kept under the law. Paul personifies the law as a jailer of guilty, condemned sinners, on death row awaiting God’s judgment Paul was focusing on the coming of Christ because He alone could release anyone from the bondage of the law. Paul ends by telling us that the law was like a schoolmaster that made you feel you could do nothing right which made you long for the day you could get away from it. It helped us to see we needed a Savior and Jesus Christ came and took all the pain and sin for us. Galatians 3 : 21

Galatians 3:21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

The law reveals man’s sinfulness and need for the salvation freely offered in the promise. If the law could have provided righteousness and eternal life, there would be no gracious promise. This is saying, if man could have lived up to the law, it would have brought life. Man, however, could not keep every little detail of the law. Jesus did not come to do away with the law, but to fulfill the law. He took care of all the sacrifices and the ordinances for us.The sacrifice of Jesus body on the cross took care of all sacrifices for all time for everyone who will believe. Our righteousness is ours, because we have been washed in the blood of Jesus and been clothed in His righteousness.

Galatians 3:19-20

Galatians 3:19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator.
20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.

Paul here ask a question about why was the law handed down. The law reveals man’s utter sinfulness, inability to save himself, and desperate need of a Savior, it was never intended to be the way of salvation. The law could neither save nor overrule the covenant God made made with Abraham, so why give it? The laws and ordinances were for a purpose. Had there been no law, we would not have been aware of our need for the Savior. Every man was doing what was right in his own sight, and God gave the law to show the error. Paul’s point is apparently that a mediator is required when more than one party is involved, but God alone ratified the covenant with Abraham. We see from this, that the mediator is actually a go-between. In the case of Moses as mediator, he is between God and mankind. He represented God to mankind and mankind to God. The way “God is one”, is in the Spirit. We need to praise God everyday that we are save by grace and not by the law cause there is no way we could completely follow the law to a tee everyday.

Galatians 3:17-18

Galatians 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

This is saying, that even though the law was given to Moses about 430 years after this promise was made to Abraham, it does not fulfill the promise made to Abraham, or do away with it. God had to bring them this way, so they could see that law alone would not save anyone. In the 430 years between the giving of this covenant and the law’s appearance, God justified man by faith. If the keeping of the law could bring the inheritance, it would not be an inheritance. An inheritance is something you receive at the death of another, which you have not earned. It is given to you because of your relation to the one who died. This shows, not only the greatness of the inheritance, but the greatness of the giver of the inheritance. God, through Jesus Christ, willed us the great inheritance. It is ours by sonship. All of God’s promises are ours and we need to claiming them.

Galatians 3:15-16

Galatians 3:15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man’s covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto.
16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.

These scriptures speak of a covenant made by a man which if it is confirmed then it is a valid covenant. This like a binding agreement it cannot be voided or changed. Like the covenant between God and Abraham is still in effect today. All of the promises made by God are covenants He has made with us and they will not go away or change. one point Paul makes is that in some Old Testament passages seed refers to the greatest of Abraham’s descendants, Jesus Christ. This leaves no doubt at all, that the promises that were made to Abraham belong to all believers in Christ. We need not try to explain this Scripture, just know that it is true, and accept it. We should see beyond a shadow of doubt that these promises made to Abraham were for all who believe in Christ.

Galatians 3:13-14

Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Theses verses tells us the reason why Jesus was born. He was born to die on the cross to take our sin upon himself. He questioned the Father when He said why have you forsaken me, but God did not forsake the spirit within the body but the sin that was taken upon the body. God cannot look upon sin. Sin died on the cross for all who will believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Accept the salvation Jesus offers you in the place of your sin. Then in verse 14 we see two things that are promised us if we believe. One is the blessings of Abraham and the other is the power of the Holy spirit we receive through faith. A verse in 1 Corinthians 2:9 says it real good what we can expect, “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” If you do not have a relationship with Jesus today and you know some one who does get in touch with them and let them tell what you can obtain through faith In an almighty God.

Galatians 3:10-12

Galatians 3:10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.
11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.

This scripture tells us there are those who think by keeping the law they can be saved, but not so, they will only be cursed. The law was impossible to live up to. If you are under the law, you would be cursed if you did not do every little thing the exact way it was given. Even in the Old Testament, we find that to obey God was better than sacrifice. There is no one who ever completely kept the law, it is an impossibility. The law condemns, grace sets us free. The law brings death to the law breaker. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ brings life eternal. The last verse declares that the law is a matter of performance, not of faith; it is a principal of doing, not believing. The law is obligations and ordinances. Those who are under the law must keep every single one of them. If we live by faith we do have to worry about the law because the spirit of God will us to do the right thing.

Galatians 3:8-9

Galatians 3:8 And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
9 So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

These verses are telling us that the Gospel was preached to Abraham because the scriptures say that through Abraham all nations shall be blessed. This also includes the gentiles to whom Paul preached and even unto us today. We are children of Abraham, because we have faith as he had faith. The justification of the heathen is in Jesus Christ, because they believed. The Old Testament predicted that Gentiles would receive the blessings of justification by faith, as did Abraham. Those blessings are poured out on all because of Christ. Faith pleases God. Almost Christmas! a Note from Hope

Mom says it’s almost time for Santa to come- just one more day…

Dad & Mom will get up and go to church tomorrow morning, and then go to have Christmas at Dad’s sister Dianne’s house, and then they’ll come home; and when we go to sleep, that’s when Santa will come and bring us some goodies…

We have been good dogs this year – well, for the most part. There was that time that Scout got that tin foil off the counter, and then one time I ran off into the yard next door and made Mom come look for me. (actually, it was more than once- but in my defense, Mom did accidentally leave me in the house one time and then couldn’t find me outside.  but I’m not laughing at her – nope, not me.)

And then there’s all the times that Scout takes something under the bed and chews it up, and makes Mom have to get on the floor to get it.

But we have both gotten better about chewing stuff up- I don’t know if it’s because we’re all grown up now, or if it just doesn’t taste as good as it used to- but we’re doing better!

And I’m gonna do my very best not to bark at the reindeer when they land on the roof- even though it would be fun to bark. If I wake Dad and Mom up, Santa may not leave us anything.

Merry Christmas ya’ll! (and don’t forget why we celebrate Christmas!)

Galatians 3:6-7

Galatians 3:6 Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

Paul here is using Abraham as proof that there has never been any other way of salvation than by grace though faith. Even the Old Testament teaches justification by faith. We should all be righteous because it is the moral condition that is acceptable to God. Anyone who has ever pleased God has done so because they believed. Believing Jews and Gentiles are the true spiritual children of Abraham because they follow his example of faith. We must believe the same thing Abraham believed if we are to truly be considered children of Abraham. The one thing that set Abraham aside from all others was that he believed God. The thing that should separate all believers in Christ from the rest of the world is that we believe Christ.
