1 Corinthians 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
In this first verse Paul is referring to some of the converted Christians and are still following and sacrifices that are no longer necessary. He lets us see in this verse it still good to follow the law of God but we do it of our own free will. Jesus covered us with His blood which took care of the law but we still need to be obedient to God. Obeying is an act of our own free will. We obey, because we know that it will please God, and we want to please Him. He is also saying he will not be a servant to sin. In this other verse we see that there is a comparison between food and the body and we should also realize that both of these will perish. Our body is the dwelling place for the Holy Spirit and my belly, along with my body, should not be my God. They will perish and the real me will live in my new spiritual body that Jesus will provide me. Since the body is such a temporary thing then we should not elevate it to godhood.
