James 4: 1-3

James 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?
2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

In this scripture James is talking about the the disunity in the church itself caused by the desires of the people of the church which cause internal conflict in the church. This discord that is sown in the the church is not what God intended. When we lust after things and go to any length to obtain it then we are not acting in the way a christian should act. It is not by our might that we are to have what God has for us but God intends for us to ask for what we need. When we go to God in prayer to ask him for what we need He will fulfill our needs but if we ask because it is something we want that is probably not good for us or someone else then we ask amiss and God will not fulfill that. The way this scripture started with trouble in the members is usually caused by people praying for personal things that are not beneficial to the body of Christ and when we ask amiss it cause this strife in the church. So we really need to concentrate on focusing on what the will of God is when we pray so we accomplish the will of God and not be consumed in our own lust.
