Proverbs 22:1-2

Proverbs22:1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all.

As this chapter starts we see that a good name and reputation are more important than any amount of wealth we can have. Riches of silver and gold and money are not permanent, even though they are nice to have, but not as nice as the good name you gain by living for God and gaining something more valuable, eternal life. Verse two goes on to tell us that God made all men, rich and poor. One commentator said, “God made the poor to work to make the wealth of the rich, and that He made the rich to provide jobs for the poor so they could make a living.” The rich and poor should live in harmony as brothers and sisters in Christ. Everybody is equal before God, rich and poor alike.
