Proverbs 19: 24-25

Proverbs 19:24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.

We have seen the slothful person before and know that he si so lazy he will not even fix food for himself. He depends on everybody else to provide for him. Next we see the scorner who is beyond receiving and help from anyone even if it is just to listen to reason. Smiting it seems is a punishment for acts already done and not to teach. The only one that will learn from this is the simple onlooker. The reproof her is probably verbal and this is all it takes for an understanding person to learn and grow from the reproof. Three classes of people are noted: 1) Scorners are rebuked for learning nothing; 2) Naïve people are warned by observing the rebuke of the scorner; 3) the understanding deepen their wisdom from any reproof.
