Proverbs 20: 4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.
6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?
Again we see a verse talking about lazy people, they will always say it is to cold or to hot to work so they will not only cause themselves not to have food to eat but their family also. they will beg for anything but will receive nothing.The next verse tells us that we need to always take time to study the word of God and hide it in hearts so we will always have it with us. If for some reason we no longer had a Bible we would have it in our hearts and the Holy Spirit would help us draw it out when we need it. This last verse tells us to beware of those who proclaim their own greatness because when it comes down to showing how much faith they really have they come up lacking. True faith i believing in something we cannot see with our physical eye.These tree verse tell us not to be lazy, study God’s word, and do not brag about how much you know.
Proverbs 20.:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
2 The fear of a king is as the roaring of a lion: whoso provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
3 It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.
The Bible does not teach that we should not drink but it does worn against over indulging in the consumption of strong drink. We know that to get drunk it causes all kinds problems but the greatest problem it cause s is sin. It is only a fool who thinks alcohol will solve his problems and the only way to overcome this is to surrender to Jesus. The next verse reminds us that we should fear the lord and not man. It is true if you provoke a leader you could lose your life but if you provoke God you will lose your soul. Lastly people today like to think they need to avenge a wrong done to them but God say to love your and pray for them even to bless them that curse you. A fool on he other hand just likes to stir the pot one more time to see what kind of strife he can cause Please attend church today where you can here he true word of God and be blessed and learn what He has for you today . Also this afternoon at Turner Park in Luverne will be a unified church service for all who like to attend so come to the ” Glory Roar” at 3:00 pm today.
Proverbs 19:28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
These last two verses to me give us a good example of how so much in this world today looks at things.First you have the ungodly that laugh in the face of judgement and is not interest in true judgement. Then you have those that once they start going down the wrong path they speed up to just far they can go. They just continue to get worse and worse. Neither of these realize that one day they will have to face the judgement of God. Verse 29 tells just what will happen for those who scorn judgement. They will be severely punished and this kind of reminds us of the rod that is not to be spared. The only way either of these will escape the wrath of God is to repent of their sins and except Jesus Christ as their savior.
Proverbs 19:26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.
Hers we see a son who has no respect for his father or mother. First he refuses to listen to the knowledge and instructions his father gives him to help grow in the direction.This son waste anything that he is given to him by his parents whether it be money or inheritance and righteous instructions on how to live. Also the love of a mother for her children runs deep and for this son to push her out of his life is a disgrace and should bring a strong reproach on him .Verse 27 say to cease from the kind of behavior that is in verse 26. It says you are taking instructions from the wrong people and should be listening to those who give you Godly instructions. I know we probably all know some situation like this so let us not forget to continue to pray for these that need to here the right way to righteousness.
Proverbs 19:24 A slothful man hideth his hand in his bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.
We have seen the slothful person before and know that he si so lazy he will not even fix food for himself. He depends on everybody else to provide for him. Next we see the scorner who is beyond receiving and help from anyone even if it is just to listen to reason. Smiting it seems is a punishment for acts already done and not to teach. The only one that will learn from this is the simple onlooker. The reproof her is probably verbal and this is all it takes for an understanding person to learn and grow from the reproof. Three classes of people are noted: 1) Scorners are rebuked for learning nothing; 2) Naïve people are warned by observing the rebuke of the scorner; 3) the understanding deepen their wisdom from any reproof.
Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
We have leaned already from the book of proverbs that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. If we believe there is a Lord then we will fear Him. even for us to be saved we must first believe there is a Lord.The fear that is wise is a fear that we might not make the resurrection; that we might not rise to new life in Him. If we are assured in our heart that we will live again with the Lord, we should be completely satisfied. As Paul said, we should be satisfied in whatever situation we find ourselves in on this earth, knowing there is a wonderful eternity with the Lord awaiting us. If we keep our minds on this, we will not even be tempted with evil. We will have overcome evil with good.
Proverbs 19:21 There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
22 The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.
These two verses tell us where the true spirit lies in a man. First we see that you can let heart be led in many directions but if you are wanting a pure heart you need to be strong in the word of God. If we will let God control our heart we will never have anything to worry about. next we see if God is in control of our hearts we will show kindness to all mankind. Again it makes reference here to the poor man who is willing to show kindness compared to the rich man who is constantly lying to people to increase his gain and could care less about showing kindness. Not all that have money are bad because God loves a cheerful giver they just need to have their heart right and in giving it is not always money but in kindness to.
Proverbs19:19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.
20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
This first verse talks of people who consumed with anger. Who can help them out as many times as you want to but they still seem to just get worse. Th best way to conquer this is through prayer to help control the anger and to help gain control of of the spirit guides the soul. Verse 20 gives advice that could help this situation. To continually study the word of God every day will help anyone to gain wisdom. With this come the knowledge to help control how we live our lives and the we learn the greater control we have over how we treat everyone. Pray that God will help you gain all the wisdom He has for you so you can be the witness He wants you to be.
Proverbs19:18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying
This verse is not just for the son but all children. We should withhold punishment from our children if they do something wrong at an early age in order to teach they to grow to be a responsible adult. It is betterthat we hear them cry because of punishment at an early age than for us to cry because of some punishment they may receive as an adult . Also this shows us that God will punish us when we sin and even if we scream and cry He will not stop the punishment until we have learned not to commit that sin anymore. Remember we learned in Proverbs 13:24 that there is great hope that the use of the “divine ordinance” of the Lord will produce Godly virtue and parental joy. Please attend church today and praise the Lord for the salvation we have received because this is the day we celebrate the resurrection of our savior.
Proverbs 19:17 He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
This first verse tells us how we can win the favor of God and be blessed. It offends God when we neglect the poor, or anyone in need, but when you do good for anyone, especially the poor, you are doing what pleases God God and He will reward you.
1 Timothy 6: 17-19 verifies this for us
17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy;
18 That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate;
19 Laying up in store for themselves a good foundation against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.
Let us always try to mindful of the people around us and be ready to help if they are in need.
"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." I John 5:7
