Proverbs 3:1-4

Proverbs 3:1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2 For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4 So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

As chapter 3 begins it reminds us to keep the laws of God in hearts and not forget them. By doing this we see that there are benefits promised by God. We can have peace because we are living by God’s law and He will also give us a long life . Along with keeping these laws go mercy and truth, two things as a good christian we can not do without. We are always to have compassion with people because it helps us to show them God’s love. The only way to do it is by telling them the truth. The best praise a person can ever get is for someone to say they are a truthful person. It is always better to tell people the truth no matter how much it hurts than to tell a lie. By always being truthful you will not only find favor with God but also with man.

Proverbs 2:20-22

Proverbs 2:20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.
21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

Verse 20 lets us know it is our choice to live the life we would like to live. It says we may walk in the paths of righteousness but the other choice is out there to, to chose to live a life away from God which means not only physical death but spiritual death also. By walking in righteousness though verse 21 tells us we will dwell in Heaven with God forever. Then verse 22 let us see that the unbeliever will be sentenced to an eternity in hell. So from these three verse it is not hard to see that if we live a life with God in control of our lives we can spend eternity with him and if we choose the other lifestyle we spend eternity with Satan in Hell. Which choice do you plan make?

Proverbs 2:16-19

Proverbs 2:16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;
17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.
19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

The strange woman here is the harlot, or prostitute, that is promoted by people who wish to make money from her profession.These are women who have disregarded what God intended the relationship between man and woman to be. The only way God intended sexual relations to be is in a marriage relationship between a man and a woman. Today this not only applies to women but to men to. Verse 18 and 19 lets us know that sexual diseases come from not obeying the way God intended sexual relations to be. Once people realize what has happened they feel they made made an irreversible mistake. At this point they feel there is no hope. But if they could turn their life over to God and surrender to His will there is no disease that can not be healed with putting your faith in God. I ask that if everyone that reads this if you know someone that is experiencing any hardship from a decision that they made in their life that was contrary to what God’s plan was for a man and a woman and they feel their is no hope try to share Jesus with them, just plant the seed.

Proverbs 2:12-15

Proverbs 2:12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;
13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

Knowledge of the word of God helps us to steer clear of people that want to talk us in to going in the wrong direction even though they use language that is very enticing. These people could have possibly been righteous once and know just how to lead a person astray. They constantly are saying everything they are doing is okay by trying to bring as many down with them as they can. We even allow things like TV to be that thing that takes us in the wrong direction but the ways of the world will lead people to total destruction. Drunkenness, drugs, immorality, lying, cheating, and stealing are part of the “froward wicked life”. Not one of these things makes for a happy ending. So today please attend the church of your choice but make sure the word you here is from the the word of God. Love to see you at Luverne First Assembly if you do not have a church to attend.

Proverbs 2:9-11

Proverbs 2:9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.
10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;
11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

Righteousness or justice is the ability to conform to the will and standard of God to help us see the potential for righteousness in our lives. Judgement is the application of the righteousness in dealing with the people we come in contact with. Equity is living our life in the best way possible by applying God’s righteousness. When wisdom has entered into the heart of man it gives him a good working knowledge of God’s word. This helps us not to make mistakes. Because all the answers to life questions can be found in the Word of God if we keep our hearts focused on God we can not be defeated. The discretion and understanding that preservers us and keeps us helps us to see the wisdom and knowledge that God gives us. If we could study the word of God enough and get it ingrained in our hearts we would not have to worry about ever being defeated by anyone.

Proverbs 2:7-8

Proverbs 2:7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

In verse 7 we see wisdom again, this must mean that to have the wisdom of God is something that is very important. We see that God is saving up wisdom for those that are righteous and all we have to do is ask for it. He is also a protector for us if we will walk in His righteousness and wisdom. For those that continue to walk in path that God is leading He will keep us justified and preserve our ways. To know the wisdom of God is to have the mind Christ, and if we live knowing we are living doing the will God then God is going to be our protector and preserve us through any storm.These two verses are for those who are followers of God so let us continually ask God for wisdom and guidance as we live each day.

Fat Boy : A Note from Hope

fatty.jpg

Before Scout came to live with us, she lived with Jennifer and Daniel and their dogs, Fat Boy, Petey, Deedee and Monkey and the other puppies.

Well, yesterday Jenn and Daniel came by to see us, and they brought Fat Boy and Monkey, who used to be Scout’s mom and dad before. (That really doesn’t make sense to me, but maybe you understand.)

They all came in the house at once- and Scout was so happy to see them! She was jumping and playing and kissing them. But I was not happy at all. I was afraid that Fat Boy was going to try to eat me- he is BIG. He kept trying to smell of me or lick me, but I said absolutely not. I hid behind Mom, or behind Daniel and wouldn’t even look at them.  But Scout just kept playing with them. She was even trying to clean Fat Boy’s teeth by licking in his mouth! That scared me too, because I thought he might bite her head off. Thank goodness he didn’t.

Daniel kept talking to me and letting me know it was going to be OK. I finally got down and sniffed Monkey and let her sniff me. Fat Boy kept trying to talk to me, and I finally let him smell of me one time.  Mom even gave everybody a peanut butter cookie, and Fat Boy let Monkey have his…

Mom says Fat Boy is a good boy – she says he used to come to our house and eat fried okra with her (that was back before me, I guess).   She says he’s going to have to come back and see us again- she says she doesn’t want me to be afraid of him, or any good dog.

I’ll try.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Psalm 56:3

Proverbs 2:6

Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

As we have seen in prior verses that wisdom comes from God..
We read in James 1:5 “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” When we speak all to often we like to think we speak from our knowledge but all knowledge comes from God. Along with that knowledge comes understanding and all of this comes reading the word of God. Scripture is the inspired word of God as He spoke to the writers of His word and our wisdom comes from revelations through reading the Bible. So if you would like to have the wisdom of God not only do we need to just ask for it but spend time in it reading and studying it.

Proverbs 2:1-5

Proverbs 2:1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

God is just asking us to to listen to what His word says and as we have heard so many times to hide His word in our hearts which includes His commandments. Once we apply this wisdom to our mind we realize the value of it and that once applied to the heart that is where our character comes from, it affects our speech, what we see and our conduct. Verse 3 is asking us how bad do we what this wisdom and knowledge, do we want it bad enough to cry out to God? If we would seek the wisdom of God as much as we seek riches and other pleasures in our life just what would God do for us? Well verse 5 tells us we would understand the healthy fear of God, which with the wisdom of God that comes to us it will help us to walk in the paths of righteousness and understand the knowledge of God. Wisdom is a gift from God. As we uncover the secrets of the Bible, We will have reverent fear of God and be filled with His knowledge.

Proverbs 1:31-33

31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.
32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them.
33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Verse 31 simply saves you will reap what you sew. If people continue to live their lives doing whatever they please they will end receiving the rewards of the seeds they have sewn, which in the end will be eternal life in hell with Satan and his demons. The carelessness of these people will just add to the destruction that will eventually come upon them.There are so people out there today that think they can just do as they please and not pay any attention what God says, even though they go to church and call themselves Christians. Now this chapter ends with a promise from God that whosoever listens to His word and lives by it shall be kept safe and has nothing to fear from evildoers. You know in our society today we so many bad things happening everywhere but as a child of God we should not fear because He says He will keep us safe. We have the blessed hope of spending eternity in Heaven with Him so why should we fear?
