Proverbs 24:1-2

Proverbs 24:1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

As we start this chapter we see right off that we need to steer clear of evil people. Because it may look like they have a lot do not desire to be with them or wish you had what they have. Their main purpose is to destroy people who get in their way and they will not hesitate to lie to get what they want. They will lead you down a path that will very hard to come back from. So as these verse started off do not have anything to do with these people, they have made their decision in life who they are going to follow.

Proverbs 23:31-35

Proverbs 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

These five verses tell the story of what alcohol can do to a person. First we see that the drink that is being consumed here is a strong drink which when consumed to excess can cause a lot of things to happen. First it can cause a hangover and make you wonder what you did. It distorts reality when too much is consumed and makes you do things you would not normally do. It makes you feel as if be being tossed about on a ship causing you to be sick and confused. When the drunkard awakes because of his lack of sense his first thought is to repeat what he just did. This is the beginning of alcoholism. We can learn from this that even though we may think we can handle taking a drink we need to realize this another way for Satan to ease into our lives. The word tells us to abstain from all appearances of evil. Please attend church today and if you have any kind of addiction leave it at the alter with God.

Proverbs 23:29-30

Proverbs 23:29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.

Verse 29 ask several questions about woes, sorrows, contentions, babbling s, wounds and redness of eyes. It is simply asking what causes all theses feelings. Verse 30 somewhat answers this question. It says they that drink too much wine, and we know they are drinking too much because it says they tarry a long time at the place they consume it. Not only that but they even try several different kinds. In the next 5 verses we will see several things that living a lifestyle like this can destroy a person.

My Little Sister! A Note from Hope

Earlier this week, our friend Ms Liz came over;  she brought her new baby,  a tiny little puppy whose name is Trixie.  Mom let me come outside to meet her, and we played in the yard a little bit. She would run at me, and then when I ran back towards her, she would hide behind someone’s feet. After a few minutes, Mom picked her up and started talking to her- then she told me that Trixie is my little sister! I couldn’t believe it.

She said that Trixie and I have the same mama (not Mom), so she really is my little sister.

Mom wouldn’t let Scout come out and meet her this time- Scout might accidentally knock her over and we didn’t want her to get hurt.

I’m so glad to find out about my little sister; even though we won’t live together, it’s nice to know that I have family in other places.

Mom says sometimes people get adopted too, just like me- ’cause you know Mom isn’t my ‘real’ Mom, right? Sometimes people aren’t able to live with their ‘beginning’ family, so someone else who loves them a lot adopts them and they become part of that family. I think that’s pretty cool.

If I could have a wish, it would be that every dog and cat, and every person, could have a happy family who loves them forever. I’m gonna put that in my prayers tonight.

Proverbs 23:26-28

Proverbs 23:26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.

These verses help us to see that the wisdom and knowledge that is gained by our children is important as they go out into the world. The lures of an immoral woman on a man is something that if he gives in to it he will fall into a pit that will seem to deep to climb out of and it closing in on him. She lieth in wait for anyone who will give in and you never know what the consequences of this sin could be. Don’t let the desires of the flesh; draw you out of fellowship with God.

Proverbs 23:24-25

Proverbs 23:24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

As we learned earlier in Proverbs the way to raise a righteous child is with proper discipline from both parents. This should include corporal punishment balanced with kindness and love. If this is administered in the proper way it should produce a godly virtue in our children which will bring parental joy. Parents who are successful in seeing their children live a righteous life style, as they grow in wisdom and knowledge, will be more joy for them than the child. Again we should strive to help our children, no matter age, to gain all the wisdom knowledge of God that they can.

Proverbs 23: 22-23

Proverbs 23:22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding

We see here this first verse tells us that what a father and mother have for their children is only to help them to grow up to be responsible adults trusting and obeying them and the Lord. Also to respect their parents when they are on up in age. The next verse urges us to obtain and hold on to the truth at what ever cost. Everything in this world will pass away but the truth will stand forever. It also says we to to hold on to the wisdom and knowledge we gain with the same determination.

Proverbs 23:19-21

Proverbs 23:19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way.
20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

These verse are good instructions for our children. As we teach them the wisdom of God we hope that their heart is open to receive what God has has for them. This will help them to defeat the lures of the temptation of the drinkers and those that live riotous lifestyles. Those that live these lifestyles usually wind up in poverty because of their drinking and over eating. The drunk can not keep a job and the glutton is too big to work so they will wind up with nothing, not even the promise of going to heaven unless they repent and change their lifestyle. Let us always strive to teach our children the right ways so they will grow up to be responsible adults.

Proverbs 23:17-18

Proverbs 23:17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

These two verses reassure us of the promise from God that we will spend eternity in Heaven with Him. We are not to desire the things that sinners have but remember that in the end they will lose everything. Just remember to keep our focus on the Lord what He has ask of us and do it. It winds up telling us that which we already know that there will be an end to all the chaos in the world but we will not lose the hope that we have in salvation.

Proverbs 23:15-16

Proverbs 23:15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

These verses show us what the rewards are when we raise our children in the wisdom and knowledge of the Lord. When we see our children making the right choices it makes us rejoice even more because it is a good reflection on both. This also comes from the results of discipline and brings the parents joy. We know when righteous words come from our children that righteousness is in their hearts. For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. It says In Psalms 37:30 “The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.” Today is the Lord’s day honor Him by attending church and if you have children they should be with you. I pray that God pours out His blessings on everyone that worships Him today.
