Proverbs 6: 12-15

Proverbs 6:12 A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth.
13 He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers;
14 Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord.
15 Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy.

This person here is one that we all have encountered at some time or another. This is someone who has no concept of what it means to be nice to someone. This is not who we need to be like or associate with but they are people who we need to witness to and try to get them to see the error of their ways. This person is so lost that they only know to continue do what they do. We see from this description and other descriptions of winking with the eye that it is used to trick people. This speaking with his feet shows that he is running to mischief. This talking with his fingers indicates evil gestures of the fingers. We have talked before about the mouth speaking from the issue of the heart. As the a man thinks in his heart, the mouth speaks. He never knows when to stop and tries to bring down as many people with him as he can. We also know that when God says enough is enough that He will bring judgement upon those who do not change their ways also his punishment will fit his wrong doing.

Proverbs 6 : 9-11

Proverbs 6:9 How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.

A lazy person wants to sleep all the time and could care less if he ever works. They will use every excuse they can to get out of work. They will even say I need time sleep, I do not have time to work. Now for those who think they do not have to work they will wind up with nothing. People, who do not like to work, receive no money. This is just a warning against being lazy and a sleepy head.
Just as a victim is overcome by a robber, so is the lazy man with his devotion to sleep rather than work, is led to poverty.

Friends for Life: A Note from Hope, Scout and Chip

Hope, Scout and ChipWhen Scout first came here, I wasn’t sure I liked her. (and to be honest, I’m still not sure on some days.) But most days we have fun. We both like playing with the kittens, especially Chip. Chip has been  my best friend since I first came here, because we were both new at the same time.  We grew up together…. and I’m glad that Scout and Chip get along together too.

Chip usually stays outside, because he likes chasing the squirrels and catching moles.  But this morning he came inside when Mom took us out for our walk.  Then when Mom started working, we all laid down on my blanket and played.

Some people think it’s silly for cats and dogs to get along, but we don’t care. Scout and I love Chip- and he loves us.  He lets us lick and chew on his ears without getting mad, and we let him grab our legs with his claws without getting mad.

Mom says that folks could learn a lot from us about getting along.  She says sometimes folks get mad at other people when they don’t agree.

That sounds kinda weird to me- I mean, how much fun would it be if we were all just alike? If all the cats were just like Chip, how could we recognize him when we see him?  We might start chewing on a strange cat’s ears and then he would get mad at us.  And  oh my goodness- if everyone were just like Scout, I don’t know if I could handle it.  It’s tough enough having one sister that takes my blanket and my cookies and my ball…. whew, it’s a tough life.

Mom says we just need to remember what the Bible says:

I Corinthians 13:

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Proverbs 6:6-8

Proverbs 6:6 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

Now we learn that we do not need to be lazy after learning not to be a cosigner to some who probably is. We all know that ants are very industrious with no one telling them what they have to do. In this scripture basically a lazy person is told to watch an ant to learn a lesson from them. God does not like people to be lazy and it is wise to learn from some one who has good work habits. We should not have to be driven to work, but should do our work, because it needs to be done. It tells us if we work hard and do what we should we are also preparing for our future as well as for our every day needs.

Proverbs 6:3-5

Proverbs 6:3 Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.
4 Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
5 Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

Now we see that it is very important to free ourselves from any arrangement that could cause us to loose our God given resources. This is just saying, don’t even wait until tomorrow, go today and beg your friend to let you off of this note so you will be free and not responsible for someone else’s note just as a deer or a bird is free from the hunter. We are seeing in these parables just good rules for living successful business lives. These parables are to help us prosper in all that we do.

Proverbs 6:1-2

Proverbs 6:1 My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,
2 Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

Chapter 6 begins teaching us another lesson one about money.
It begins by talking basically about signing on a note with someone else. It is foolishness to do this because it makes you responsible for what some else owes. The word tells us it is better to give or lend without interest than to do sign with someone. Anyone who becomes responsible for another person’s debt is trapped and controlled because he has yielded control of what God has given him. Young people, many times, do not realize that they could have to pay the whole debt for something they did not receive by just signing an innocent looking piece of paper. All to often we buy things today on credit that we really do not need and sometimes do not have the means to pay for it. It is said the number one cause of divorce today is the debt a family has. God’s word give us a plan of how to spend what we have and live a good life if we take take the time to study His word on this subject.

Proverbs 5:20-23

Proverbs 5:20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.
22 His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
23 He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

As we have just looked at how God wants a relationship to be we have a question asked. Why would anyone commit a known sin? This refers to an adulterous relationship but really it could be referring to any sin. We should know better because God is always seeing what we are doing even to the point of allowing his mercy to give us a chance to repent if we mess up. If we let the sin continue it only gets worse and usually will wind up with someone being lost to God. A person caught up in this type of life will tie their own selves up in this sin. Adultery seems to be especially bad to the Lord. This sin of adultery, which also includes homosexual and lesbian acts, carries its own special punishment with it. If a person like this does not repent he is condemned to eternal life in hell. Again no one has to face that end they can call on Jesus for salvation and spend eternity in Heaven.

Proverbs 5:18-19

Proverbs 5:18 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

This scripture lets us know that God intended for the marriage relationship to be between only one man and one woman. That we should not have more than one wife. Also that we should love the wife of of our youth just as much, if not more, when we get old. There has been a terrible cancer of sin in our society the last few years. That is people who are living together without the benefit of marriage. This is not His plan for man and woman. God made one man for one woman, and they two become one flesh; not for a few days but for a lifetime together on this earth. God can give you a special love for your wife or husband, even if you have been married over 50 years. We should always be able to be satisfied with our spouse and our love should grow deeper for one another as we grow older. One of the best ways for a marriage to stay strong is for the husband and wife to be church together, so find you a church to attend today and learn what God has new for you We welcome everyone at Luverne First Assembly of God at 788 Glenwood Rd please come and join us if you do not have a church to attend. Proverbs 5:15-17

Proverbs 5:15 Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
16 Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.
17 Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.

As the scripture goes on here we see it turns from the harlot to the life lived in unity between a husband and wife. Cistern and well refer to the wife from whom the husband is to draw all his satisfying refreshment, sexually and affectionately. The teaching here continues in the continuity of the family, instead of illegitimate children in the streets, it should be children of husband and wife in a home. In short, stay at home and enjoy the things that God has provided for you and your family. Don’t go looking for greener grass.

Guess what Mom and Serafina got to do? They handed out candy at “The Treat’s On Us” last Monday.   Serafina sat on a table and greeted everyone and Mom handed out goodie bags, til she ran out.  Each goodie bag had a few pieces of candy in it, and a little booklet that told the kids how much Jesus loves them.

She got some pictures of some of the folks they met- lots of cute little kids were there – she saw Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Iron Man, firefighters, witches, dolls, cowgirls,  Beetlejuice, pirates – and even a dragon! He looked like Serafina so Mom took their picture together. (You can click on the little pictures above to see bigger ones.)

Dad said Scout and I didn’t need to go, because some people might be scared of pibbles, and because we might accidentally get loose while she was busy.  (I sure am glad Dad loves us, but I would have really liked to go and see all that candy!)  He said we’re going to get to go to some of the places they go though-he and Mom say we’re going to start doing more stuff like this so we can tell even more folks that Jesus loves them. It’s gonna be great!

Dad said something about getting Mom a sidecar…. I wonder if the kitties will want to ride in it?

Mark 1:16 Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 And Jesus said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you become fishers of men.” 18 And immediately they left their nets and followed him.
