Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
These two verse focus on the word of God. we read in the Bible that in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. God spoke and things came into being and without Him nothing was made. Our shield is our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The second verse reminds us of what the last chapter of book of Revelation told us. No one is to add to or take away from the Word of God. This makes that person a liar if they do that and there is no place for liar in the kingdom of God. To alter the word of God is to deny that the word of God is truth. We need to be careful when we decide what translation of the Bible we use because some the translations leave out a lot of words and some add too many words.
Proverbs 30:4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou canst tell?
This scripture ask questions that can only be answered by a revelation of God. We know, as Christians, the answer to these questions is God. It takes studying the word of God and asking for God’s guidance to help us understand what His word is telling us. Only God could have accomplished all of this and we know the name of His son is Jesus. We know that power will be given in it, over it, and under it; and that at the name of Jesus all will bow. It helps us to know that God is the ultimate creator of all things and we are to always be thankful to to God for sending His Son for our salvation.
Proverbs 30:2 Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.
3 I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.
It believed that in these two verse it is Solomon speaking. Here he realizes that the more he learned form God he became aware that he really knew very little about God. He say he is no more than a brutish beast in understanding and that only the very wise realize how little they really know. No one except God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit have knowledge of the holy. He knew wisdom does not come through human searching alone but that understanding is associated with the holiness of God. We do not learn wisdom but it is a gift from God that enables us to understand the knowledge we have gained from studying His Word. I think we can all agree that no matter how much wisdom we acquire that no man truly knows God.
Proverbs 30:1 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,
Today we get a little history lesson. No one knows for sure who these names belong to in this scripture but it could be making reference to Solomon and David. “Agur” means gathered, many believe this is fanciful name for Solomon. “Jakeh” means obey or obedient. Here again, many believe this to be a symbolic name of Solomon. “Ithiel” means God has arrived. This too, is believed not to be a person, but a symbolic name. “Ucal” means devoured. Here again, this name has no history before or after this mention. Some think Agur addressed his wisdom perhaps to his favorite pupils, as Luke to Theophilus. It is not that important who wrote it but that we learn the wisdom from what is taught in this chapter.
Proverbs 29:26 Many seek the ruler’s favour; but every man’s judgment cometh from the LORD.
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
These last two verse of this chapter says a good bit about how people are and and who is the ultimate judge over all. We know that many seek special treatment here on this earth by doing special things for someone in authority, but the one we need to please through obedience to Him is God, for He is the ultimate judge of all. The intelligent thing to do is to make sure we seek God’s favor since He alone can and will exact justice.
Last we see that those who are evil and unjust are not liked by the righteous even though these are some of the ones we need to pray for. on the other hand you have the evil and unjust who really look down on the righteous. They feel this way because they feel guilt for the way they live their lives.I believe they hate the ways of the upright, because their ways make them feel guilty of their sins. These are also those that need the prayers of the saints.
Proverbs 29:24 Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and bewrayeth it not.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
This first verse tells us what we should already know, that when we help are are a part of something being done wrong by someone then we are just as guilty as if we had done it ourselves. Even to the point of just knowing someone did something wrong and you do tell the proper people you are stil guilty of committing a sin. The second verse goes on to say that the people fear to tell what they need to and this is what cause them to be caught n a snare. The last part of the second verse ends with a promise from God though. It says if we will put our faith and trust in the Lord we will be safe and not have any thing to worry about. Provebs 29:22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
In these verses we see some of the same people we have seen before and if they worth mentioning again then it is important for us to recognize these and be prepared to deal with them. The angry person we know always stirs up trouble and he is right in there with the furious person who is abounding in his sin. And the scripture goes on to tell us about the one thing so hard for people to conquer and that is their pride. This is one attitude that gets more people in trouble and away from God than a lot of other things. But the scripture winds up on a good note and reminds us that a humble spirit is one that is in pursuit of the will of God. Lets us again pray for all of these that come to know Jesus and that the humble will grow even closer to God.
Proverbs 29:21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him become his son at the length.
This verse can seem to refer to if a child comes into someones life at an early age and is around you so much that it like they are part of the family, then you think of them as family. This could refer to foster parents who take children in a very early age and have a long tome that they actually become part of the family and could even eventually be adopted into the family. Think back over the children’s lives you have affected to the point where they treated like family at your home and were you a good influence on them that lead the min the right direction. Even relationships as children with other children growing up where you spend so much time together that it seems as if you are part of the same family. There is bond here that as Christians we should strive to obtain with everyone we come in contact with so they can become a part of our heavenly family.
Proverbs 29:19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understand he will not answer.
20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.
These two verses talk about what we speak, how we speak and who we speak to. First it deals with a servant who is disobedient because he can here what you are saying but it means nothing to him. You have to get rough with this type of person. They are usually unresponsive and irresponsible. Then we see the person, who we are already familiar with from an earlier chapter, who just runs off at the mouth most of the time not thinking about what he is saying. Even a fool has better sense most of the than to speak continuously when he does not know what he is talking about. Let us always try to know what we saying is right and for the people who do not want to listen pray for them, they are more and more of them out their today.
Proverbs 29:18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
This verse is one that a lot of us have heard time and time again but we usually just quote the first part of it.The second part of this verse tells us why the people perish because they have no vision. They fail to be obedient to the word of God and therefore are not blessed by God to be able to have a vision where they can have a future. It says happy is the man that keepeth the law and that is saying happy is the man that obeys the word of God for God will bless him and give him visions of things to come that he will delight in. Let us always strive to to be in the will of God so we can see what He has in store for us.
"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one." I John 5:7
