Proverbs 10:15 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.
16 The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.
17 He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.
This is some good verses where we see first that money can buy anything a man may want but how he decides to use his money is what is important and the poor just have what they have. A lot times people just say the rich get richer and the poor get poorer but if the poor have a desire to work they can pull themselves up out of that situation. We should all be content with whatever state we are in. While the rich man thinks he has his walled city for protection, the poor man knows he has nothing. Both should trust in the Lord as their only protection. Next we see those that labor are usually hard working and law abiding citizens with deep spiritual convictions which lead to eternal life.On the other hand those who do not like to work are usually dishonest and what they do leads to sin. Finally we should be eager to receive instruction because it helps us not make mistakes. While the person who rejects instruction is a fool and and has completely stop growing.
Proverbs 10:13 In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.
We see here that the wisdom that has been learned gives us understanding to say the right things at the time. For those that are void of understanding because of a lack of wisdom needs to be corrected and as we will see later in proverbs the use of a rod for correction is used. Verse 14 says that a wise man soaks up all the knowledge he can, this will help him to obey the leadership of God. A foolish person however loves to run his mouth about things he knows nothing about which will lead to his destruction. These two verses help to see a difference between saying the right things and the wrong things and what consequences of what we say can cause. In James 3:10 it says ” Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.” I would like everyone today to find a good church to go to that teaches the wisdom and and knowledge of God and we welcome you at Luverne First Assembly 788 Glenwood Road.
Proverbs 10:11 The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
Jesus told the woman at the well if she drank of the water He could give her she would never thirst again. This means that as a righteous person we are a well of living water to share with others. Again we see that the wicked are violent people and leads to nothing but destruction. As verse 12 goes on to say that hatred causes all kinds sins and it can lead to all kinds of division. Then we see that love covers a multitude of sins and we see this appearing several times in new testament. 1 Peter 4:8 says And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. True love seeks the highest good for another.
Proverbs 10:8 The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.
9 He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.
10 He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.
This helps us to see that a wise person is someone who can be taught and will listen. The fool on the other hand is someone who already knows everything and is continually running their mouth till they say too much and it comes back to bite them. Theses scriptures continue to show us that those that walk in path that God has laid out for them is one they can be sure of and does not have to fear of failing. On the other hand the people who walk in the dark are evil and in the end you can be sure their sins will find them out. Finally those that wink are usually up to no good and are plotting evil. Again it tells us the fool talks too much and winds up getting caught in his own folly. In these three verses we see we need to use the wisdom and knowledge we have learned of God to keep focused on the things we say and do and always be ready to take instruction to learn more.
Proverbs 10:6 Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.
7 The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.
We know from the some of the things we have learned so for that the wisdom and knowledge we have gained to help us live the life God wants us to live brings blessings. We should always strive to continue to live a just life to continue to receive God’s blessings. On the other hand the wicked of this world are always in some kind of trouble which a lot times leads to violence. When this group is in trouble they usually are using choice language because of their circumstances. Verse seven lets you know that the just are remembered for the good things they did and the life they lived for God. For those who were trouble makers they just die off and are not celebrated for the deeds they did. This leads to the question “How do you want to be remembered?”.
Proverbs 10:5 He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.
Anyone who knows anything about farming knows things have to be done in a timely manner at certain times of the year. To rest a little more when it is very cold and the ground is frozen is alright but when it is harvest time that is when you should be working from sunup till sundown. This relates to the work of God’s people in that the word says the harvest is ready and the labors are few so we need to be up early and working late to harvest as many believers for Gods kingdom as we can. Today with the world in the turmoil that it is in we should be working every day to win souls to Christ and this is not the time to slacking off.
Proverbs 10:4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
We have probably heard it said most of our lives, early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. Also there is nothing wrong with be poor as long as it is not caused by being lazy. The slack hand is hand is talking about lazy people. If you plan to have anything while here on this earth you will have to work for it. Again using the wisdom we have gained from God we can put our talents to work and God will bless it. Laziness will get you nowhere but to the poorhouse.
Proverbs 10:3 The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
We know that God takes care of his people and we will never have to worry about the problems we have because they are there to strengthen us. Also we are promised an eternal home with Him in heaven. The wicked so many times seem like they get away with everything but in time God will also deal with them.
Psalm 37: 22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand.
25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.
27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
Proverbs 10:2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.
Now We all know that what ever we gain here on this earth we cannot take it with us. Anything gained in the wrong way is a sure way to to gain a ticket to hell. A lot of people think you can buy your into Heaven but that does not work either. The only way to get to Heaven is to repent of your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your savior. Living your life in the right standing with God will lead to life eternal. The greatest of all treasures, life, is gained by righteousness. Proverbs 10;1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
Chapter 10 begins a new collection of the wisdom Solomon. Verse 1 lets us see that there are times when parents have joy and sorrow with their children. Children usually do not realize if their parents are happy until there later years. Parents are glad when they know their children saved and living their life as Christians. On the other hand parents are sad when they see their children living a life that is sinful. This grief is most deeply felt by the mother, who plays a more intimate role in raising a child.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
