Proverbs 14:14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself.
15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
17 He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
With these verses we see again how there can be differences in the types of people in this world. We have the backslider that is consumed by his own world and are unbelievers. The simple that fall for anything and no one cna change their mind. The fool that believes he can do anything even if it is against God and this gets him into trouble. Lastly we have the person who lets their anger rule them and flies off the handle at anything while the wicked sin and are disliked by all. I fear that our world has more people in like theses than the the ones we are about to look at.
A good man will put his flesh under the rule of the spirit so he does not falter. The prudent man continues with this in that he checks what he says with God’s word. Then we see that the wisdom we gain helps us examine everything to see that it is pleasing to God.
1 John 4:1 “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”
Proverbs 14:13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness.
This verse is probably one most of us can relate to. How many times have we put on a fake smile when all along we were miserable inside. Too many times there are people who are really hurting on inside but will not show it on the outside because they are afraid of what people might say. The laughter is a cover up a lot of times to keep from crying. If we fail to share with someone our true feelings this is when the mirth is turned into heaviness. We need to learn from this verse that we as Christians need to know how to tell when someone is in need of that person they can relate their true feelings to and be there to listen and not condemn.
Proverbs 14;11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Here in this scripture we see that the wicked of this world love to store up treasures here on this earth and are not thinking of the future and none of what they have will go with them when they leave this world. On the other hand the Christian knows where their true home is and it is not this world but in Heaven. We as Christians are looking to the heavenly city “New Jerusalem”.
Now while the there are plenty of teachings in the world today that say if it feels right do it. Even God’s chosen people only wanted to do what they thought was right in their own sight. If we listen to fleshly desires it will lead to sin and death. There are two paths offered to man a narrow gate and a wide gate. The narrow gate is by faith and leads to true salvation in God’s way that leads to eternal life.
The wide gate includes all religions of works and self righteousness with no way to heaven but leads to hell.
Today it is my prayer again that you find a church that teaches the true word of God and see what He has for you today.
Proverbs 14:10 The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.
We see in this scripture that the feelings of the heart are private. Whenever we are grieving it is difficult for someone to really feel what is in our heart and if it is of a personal nature it is usually deeper than the onlookers. Also we can share our joy with anyone but it is hard to feel the greatness of it if it is not happening to us. We should however never let anyone hinder our joy and if we take those things that grieve us to God , He will give us the strength and comfort to get through any situation and He is the supplier of our joy.
Proverbs 14:8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way: but the folly of fools is deceit.
9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
In these two verses we see a wise person considers the best options and takes the best way by doing this they make better choices which leads to favor with God.
The fool on the other hand is deceived without considering the consequences They will cheat in every way they can but be sure your sins will find you out. Fools chose to sin, anything goes is their motto. Sin is being made to look as if it is the best thing to do.
Let us strive every day to look to the wisdom of God and turn away from all appearances of sin,.
Proverbs 14:5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.
In these verses a faithful and righteous person will always tell the truth and be humble enough to seek knowledge and be taught and last to stay away from those who will lead you in the wrong direction.
We also have those who every other statement they make is a lie and has no idea where to look for knowledge and the language they use is not what you want to be around
Sometimes we have to make hard decisions on who we need to witness to and who not to. But if we will continue to seek the wisdom and knowledge of God and pray for discernment He will help us to identify which is which.
Proverbs 14;4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.
This verse is similar to saying that if have clean stable you have no horses. Both of these animals have been used in the past to supply income for families. If you did not have ox to pull the plow you had no income therefore it could lead to poverty. When we see a dirty stable or barn we know there are animals there to work to help supply a family’s need. Today we might see people who are always loafing and not ever really doing or accomplishing anything and this will lead to poverty. Then we see some one who is up and headed to a job everyday will be blessed with the fruit of his labor. Let us strive to be one who is always working for kingdom of God in everything we do and not just going through the motions.
Proverbs 14:1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.
3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
As we begin in chapter 14 we see that the husband builds the house and the wife makes it a home. The man is considered to be the head of the family but the mother is the heart that glues it together. A mother usually spend s a lot more time with the children and instills the moral character in them. the mother can make it happy home or a sad home.
In verse 2 we see that we need to always walk in our salvation because we never know who is watching to see if live what we preach. We know God sees everything we do and that is why we should have a reverent fear of God. A perverse person could care less what God thinks of them. Their ways are crooked and lead to destruction. Perversion is unnatural sin. In verse 3 we where pride is factor and the foolish use there arrogance and pride to force their opinions on others and this is wrong. As the righteous use their wisdom to lead people in the right direction it helps to keep them preserved.
In Matthew 12:37 we see “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.”
Let us always strive to do the will of God in everything we do and say.
Proverbs 13:25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.
In Psalms 37:25 “I have been young, and [now] am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”
In Luke 12-31 we see this in Jesus’ own words, “But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Along with this verse in Proverbs we can see that the ones who seek after righteousness will be blessed beyond measure. This just not mean blessed with physical things but with those things that get us closer to God. This is what we should seek every day to get closer to God.
For the wicked there is no provision for any kind kind of blessing and in the end they will be in want.
I know they are friends on my Facebook that probably do not agree with the post I make but I do pray that one day God will open your eyes to see the glory of His salvation.
Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.
In verse 24 we are all familiar with what this verse teaches but it is well worth taking another look at it. It used to be ,if your my age, that when you did something you should not have done in school or at home the leather strap was not spared. Most of the time if I got in school I got another one at home and my parents did not have to be told I got at school, they knew it by the time I got home. Just like we learned by discipline how to act in society, God expects the same in living the life He wants us to live. I think most would agree with today when i say discipline is not a factor in our society today. Neither are following the Laws of God followed like they should be today, because people do not think that church is important anymore.
Hebrews 12 6-8 it says “6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.”
You see, if God loves you, He will correct you when you are wrong.
This one verse here could be preached on in every church today and I do not believe enough could be said. If you need a church to attend today all are welcome at Luverne First Assembly of God on the Glenwood highway and we love to see you. It begins at 10:30.
