Oh Be Careful…

30/08/10

There’s a kids song we sing at church sometimes- the words are:

Oh be careful, little hands, what you do;
Oh be careful, little hands, what you do!
For the Father up above, is looking down in love -
Oh be careful, little hands, what you do.

Oh be careful, little mouth, what you say;
Oh be careful, little mouth, what you say!
For the Father up above, is looking down in love-
Oh be careful, little mouth, what you say.

There are other verses, but these are two I want to point out. I know we’re all human, and sometimes it’s easy to say something hurtful to someone, especially if you’re tired or angry. But we all need to make sure that the things we say publicly, especially online, are the things we want people to remember.   A friend of mine put something in her blog that was hurtful, and because of circumstances beyond her control,  she can’t get to it  to remove it. Lots of people are going to see that note before it comes down; what will the lasting effect of that be?

Please think about it- the next time you get ready to complain about something, or blast someone online – is that really how you want people to remember you?
